Sarah Houlton edits the department magazine, Chem@Cam. She is also a freelance journalist, specialising in chemistry, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and football. Sarah is the European correspondent of US-based Pharmaceutical Executive magazine; scientific consultant to the magazine she used to edit, Manufacturing Chemist; and she writes regularly on pharmaceutical ingredients for the American magazine Chemical Week.
Her background is in chemistry, with a BSc from Imperial College, and a Glaxo-sponsored PhD in organic synthesis, also from Imperial, under the supervision of Willie Motherwell. Between the two, she spent a year in pharmaceutical research at the James Black Foundation in London.
