The Royal Society of Chemistry Emerging Technologies competition is an annual innovation initiative, turning promising ideas into commercial reality.

The competition is free to enter and open to small companies, universities, and research institutions, who can apply using the online application form.

Applicants must be based in one of the EU Member States or Switzerland, Norway or Iceland.

The competition aims to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative technologies in Health & Wellbeing, Energy & Environment, Food & Water, and Materials.  The technologies/ideas submitted must have a strong chemistry component.

Andrew Marsden, CEO of Immaterial, and a PhD candidate in Professor Jane Clarke’s Group, won 1st prize with his Immaterial colleagues in the competition in 2015.

All 40 shortlisted entrants will receive business training and the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of expert judges at Chemistry Means Business 2016, a high-profile two-day event bringing together professionals from across the chemistry community.

First, second and third place winners in each competition category will receive tailored business support from one of the RSC’s partner companies, media exposure for the winning technology and a profile in Chemistry World, and cash prizes of up to £20,000.

Online applications close 14 March 2016, and shortlisted entries will be announced 19 April.
