PhD Studentship: Materials/Biophysical Chemistry

We invite applications for a 4-year PhD studentship to work with Dr Erwin Reisner on a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) on semi-artificial photosynthesis. A significant part of the project aims to design and synthesise photoactive/electroactive materials that can 'wire' enzymes to artificial photosynthetic systems. Biophysical and spectroelectrochemical techniques will be used to study the protein-surface interface and to guide design.

The PhD student will thereby work in a collaborative, international and multi-disciplinary research environment ranging from synthetic molecular and materials chemistry to spectroscopy, electrochemistry, photo-catalysis and engineering. Further information about the work of the Reisner group is available at:
http://www-reisner.ch.cam.ac.uk/

The applicant should have (or expect to obtain) the equivalent of a UK first class honours degree (and preferably a Masters degree) in a scientific discipline that is relevant to the project. The studentship will cover tuition fees and an annual maintenance grant for EU nationals. Non-EU nationals will be considered only if they can cover the differential for overseas tuition fees. The studentship is available from April or October 2017.

To apply for this vacancy, please send a cover letter, CV, detailed academic transcripts and the contact details for at least two academic referees to Mrs Inger Lomax, Administrator of the Reisner Group, by email at pa-reisner@ch.cam.ac.uk, quoting reference number MA10432 in the subject line of the email.
