Job opportunities

Research Opportunities

We are always looking to recruit talented and committed scientists. If you are interested in working in the Nitschke group then please get in touch.

Postdoctoral Positions

Funding is currently available for qualified postdoctoral scholars to join the group. To apply please send a CV and cover letter, mentioning fellowship funding agencies to whom you might apply to underwrite your stay in the group. Fellowship applications are not required in all cases, but preference will generally be given to applicants who have a strong chance of gaining external funding. Also please have two or three letters of reference sent by academic mentors who know your work.

Enquiries are particularly encouraged from applicants with experience in the synthesis and characterisation of metal-containing or supramolecular polymers, the synthesis of challenging abiological structures (such as porphyrins or complex ligands for metal-containing assemblies), or good expertise with Suzuki-Miyaura and related reactions. Your accomplishments in another area of chemistry may also allow you to contribute to our work, however - all applicants with strong publication records in high-impact journals, and who are able to make a convincing case as to how their backgrounds will allow them to contribute to the group's research programme, are invited to get in touch.

PhD Positions

PhD positions are available in our group each year, usually starting in October. If you are interested in doctoral studies in the group then please get in touch as early as possible. An application should consist of your CV, a cover letter, and two reference letters sent by academic mentors who know your work. Information about graduate studies at Cambridge is available on the University website.

Part III Projects

Part III (final-year undergraduate) projects are available every year starting in October. Prospective Part III students are advised to get in touch as far in advance as possible.

Undergraduate / MSc Students

We can sometimes accommodate talented and motivated students at various times of the year for stays of at least four months. Work is carried out under the guidance of an experienced doctoral or postdoctoral group member in the context of an ongoing project. Please be aware that such stays need to be arranged well in advance. Students must have strong basic training in experimental chemistry; substantial laboratory work must have been carried out before arriving here. To apply, please send a CV and have a reference letter sent by an academic mentor who has worked with you in the laboratory or the classroom before. Funds to support such stays are only rarely available in Cambridge, so students will need to apply for scholarship funding themselves. The person at your university who is in charge of Erasmus or international programmes may be able to advise you.

Mass mailings won't be acknowledged. If you don't have a solid idea of what it is that we do and why you want to join the team, please look elsewhere.
