600 MHz DRX-600 BBI Spectrometer - 'svl600' - Room B12

There are two spectrometers in Room B12 that belong to Professor S.V. Ley and are used by his research group.  The NMR Service takes responsibility for Nitrogen and Helium fills, as well as day to day maintenance and troubleshooting on behalf of the Ley group.

The 600 MHz spectrometer has a Broadband Inverse (BBI) probe.  The geometry of the coils in the probe means the proton sensitivity is good for a non-cryoprobe, and thus many proton detected experiments may be run such as TOCSY, NOESY and ROESY.  Carbon and DEPT combinations are also routinely acquired.  The capability to tune the X-channel to other nuclei exists, although this necessitates a trip into the pit beneath the magnet!

The picture above shows the 600 MHz magnet in its pit.  The magnet is unshielded so was required to be sited in a pit to stop the stray field entering the teaching laboratory in the floor above.
