The Orbitrap is a hybrid system incorporating a linear ion trap and an orbitrap analyser. The setup allows multiple stages of MSMS to be obtained using either CID or PQD with helium as the collision gas. The system is attached to a Dionex Ultimate 3000 HPLC which allows LCMS to be carried out with accurate mass data being produced or even mass directed MSMS data.
